Buying a used drone: the anti-scam checklist
Tired batteries, worn motors, dubious history: here are the 10 things to check before buying a used DJI drone — and why certified changes everything.

Buying a used DJI drone is an excellent way to save… as long as you know where to look. A good used drone can last for years; a bad purchase can cost dearly in repairs. Here is the complete checklist.
The 10 things to check before buying
- Battery health: the most expensive item. Ask for the cycle count and the health shown in the DJI app.
- Motor condition: they should spin freely, with no abnormal noise or play.
- Propellers and shrouds: look for cracks, chips and deformation.
- Sensor and lens: no scratches, no dust inside.
- Gimbal: it must stabilise perfectly, with no jerks.
- Crash history: a drone that has fallen several times may have invisible weaknesses.
- Firmware and account: the drone must be unlinked from the previous owner’s account.
- Serial number: check it is not reported stolen.
- Original accessories: charger, cables, controller, box.
- Original invoice: useful for the remaining manufacturer warranty.
Private used vs certified used
Buying from a private seller may save a few euros, but you take on all the risk: no warranty, no recourse in case of failure, no inspection. Certified used reverses the logic: the drone is inspected, refurbished and warranted.
At Dronex, every used drone passes a 47-point inspection, receives a firmware update and batteries whose health is verified (> 90%), then is warranted 12 months. You buy peace of mind, not just a price.
